Design and production of concrete

The constituent materials listed below were approved by Femern A/S for use in the project and subsequently acquired by Danish Technological Institute.

Cements, fly ash and slag were tested according to the requirements in EN 206-1, DS 2426 and the requirements used for the Øresund Link concrete.

Fine aggregate was Storebæltssand from Rønne Banke and coarse aggregate was crushed Rønne granite, which were used for parts of the Great Belt Link. Aggregates were analyzed for density, absorption, particle size distribution and packing.

Different admixtures were tested in order to obtain a well distributed air void system in the concretes. The superplasticizer tested initially was found to be somewhat air entraining and hence a superplasticizer with extra defoamer was selected.
